Caps Today, 1/16

Today’s Storyline

The Washington Capitals will practice today at 11 a.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Several veterans are scheduled to make their Capitals debuts this season, including Joey Crabb, Wojtek Wolski and Jack Hillen.

Crabb joins Washington after spending the last two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 2011-12 he recorded career highs in goals (11), assists (15), points (26) and games played (67) with the Maple Leafs. He finished the season ranked 11th on Toronto in points and eighth in goals while his plus-one rating finished tied for fifth on the team. Crabb tallied four game-winning goals in 2011-12, tied for the second-most among all Maple Leaf players, and his two shorthanded goals tied for the team lead.

Wojtek Wolski recorded 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 31 games with the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers in 2011-12. Four current Capitals were drafted in the first round of the 2004 draft (Alex Ovechkin, Wolski, Jeff Schultz and Mike Green) and Wolski ranks tied for sixth in scoring among his 2004 draft class. He registered career highs in goals (23), assists (42), points (65) and games played (80) and tallied four goals and one assist in seven playoff games during the 2009-10 season with Colorado and Phoenix.

Jack Hillen recorded six points (two goals, four assists) and 20 penalty minutes in 55 games with the Nashville Predators last season. He finished the season eighth on Nashville in plus/minus (plus-six) and tied for eighth in blocked shots (65). The 5’10”, 201-pound blueliner spent four seasons with Colorado College of the WCHA, where he was teammates with Joey Crabb.
