Caps Today, 2/19/13

Today’s Storyline
The Washington Capitals will practice today at 10:30 a.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Tomas Kundratek skated 23:25 in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers, the second-highest ice-time total on the Capitals and Kundratek’s career-high ice time figure.

Kundratek, acquired from the Rangers in exchange for Francois Bouchard in Nov. 2011, has recorded four assists in his last six games and currently ranks tied for fifth in points among NHL rookie defensemen. The Czech Republic-native has seen his average ice time per game rise from 12:18 in six games during January to 15:00 in his eight games played in February.

The 6’2”, 200-pound blueliner currently ranks among the top-16 rookie defensemen in both shorthanded ice time per game (1:01) and power-play ice time per game (:38). At his time of recall to Washington, Kundratek led Hershey in goals and ranked third in points while ranking third in the AHL in goals by a defenseman.
