Caps Today, 2/20/13

Today’s Storyline
The Washington Capitals will practice today at 10:30 a.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Capitals defenseman John Erskine skated 21:16 on Saturday against the New York Rangers, tied for the third-highest ice time on Washington. Erskine has skated an average of 19:56 per game this season, ranking him sixth on the team and fourth among defensemen, and that average ice time is the highest in Erskine’s 11-season career. His previous high came in 2006-07, Erskine’s first year with Washington, when he finished the season with an average ice time total of 18:03 per game.

His two points so far this season have tied his scoring total from last season and the Capitals are 9-0-0 in games when Erskine scores a goal. In his career, teams are a combined 12-0-0 when Erskine tallies a goal.

Erskine ranks third on Washington in plus/minus (plus-2), tied for second in hits (26) and fourth in blocked shots (17).
