Caps Today, 2/28/13

Today’s Storyline
The Washington Capitals will return to practice on Friday, March 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Goaltender Philipp Grubauer made his NHL debut last night, stopping all 14 shots he faced in his 25:05 of playing time. Grubauer was recalled Wednesday morning from Hershey after posting a record of 6-4-1 with a 2.10 goals-against average, a .928 save percentage and one shutout (he also combined for second shutout with Dany Sabourin on Jan. 13) in 12 games during his rookie season in the AHL. Grubauer began the 2012-13 season in Reading (ECHL) and was named a starter in the ECHL All-Star Game.

In a span of 52 days, Grubauer went from playing with Reading of the ECHL, to Hershey of the AHL to making his NHL debut last night for the Capitals.

Michal Neuvirth played for South Carolina (ECHL), Hershey and the Capitals in 2008-09 while Braden Holtby played for South Carolina, Hershey and dressed as Washington’s backup goaltender in 2009-10.
