The Washington Capitals will practice today at 11 a.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
Last night Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 32nd goal of the season in his 600th career NHL game. His 371 career goals are the eighth-most by any player in NHL history through their first 600 career games (courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau). He has tallied 23g-11a in his last 22 games played.
The Hershey Bears, Washington’s AHL affiliate, will open the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs tonight in Providence against the Providence Bruins. Hershey is the eighth seed while Providence enters the best-of-five series as the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
Capitals prospects Tom Wilson and Connor Carrick of the Plymouth Whalers will play in Game 5 of the OHL Western Conference final tonight at 7 p.m. in London. Wilson, the OHL Player of the Week, has tallied 6g-1a and eight penalty minutes in his last three playoff games while Carrick currently leads all OHL defensemen in points (2g-15a-17p) and is tied for the league lead in plus/minus (+15). Plymouth trails London 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.
