Caps Today, 4/28/13

Today’s Storyline

The Washington Capitals concluded the 2012-13 regular season with a 3-2 overtime win over the Boston Bruins last night. Washington, the third seed, will face the New York Rangers, the sixth seed, in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. This will mark the third consecutive season in which the two teams will face off in the playoffs.

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin will win the 2012-13 Richard Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL’s goal-scoring leader. Ovechkin scored 32 goals in 48 games this season. This marks Ovechkin’s third Richard Trophy, becoming the first player in the trophy’s 13-year history to win the award three times. The last 13-year period in NHL history when one player didn’t lead the League in goals at least three times was between 1937-1949.
