ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled center Casey Wellman from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Wellman, 26, has appeared in 23 games for the Bears this season, registering 13 points (seven goals, six assists) and four penalty minutes. The 6’0”, 183-pound center recorded a hat trick against Charlotte on Nov. 14 and ranks tied for first among Hershey skaters in goals (7) and third on the team in points (13). In 192 career AHL games, Wellman has recorded 148 points (60 goals, 88 assists) and 67 penalty minutes.
The Brentwood, California, native made his NHL debut with the Minnesota Wild on March 19, 2010. Wellman has appeared in 41 career NHL games with Minnesota, registering 13 points (four goals, nine assists) and four penalty minutes. Washington acquired Wellman from Florida in exchange for Zach Hamill on Jan. 31, 2013.
Wellman will wear jersey No. 48 and will be available to the media following the Capitals morning skate at 11:30 a.m. at Wells Fargo Center.
