Capitals Re-assign Goaltender Philipp Grubauer to Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have re-assigned goaltender Philipp Grubauer to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Grubauer, 22, appeared in 16 games with Washington this season, posting a 6-4-5 record, a 2.38 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. The Rosenheim, Germany, native earned his first NHL win on Dec. 8 against the New York Rangers and started 14 of Washington’s last 20 games. Grubauer ranks third among NHL rookie goaltenders in saves (424) and save percentage and sixth in goals against average (min. 300 minutes played).

The 6’1”, 190-pound goaltender has appeared in nine games with Hershey this season, posting a 4-4-1 record with one shutout, a 2.60 GAA and a .910 save percentage. In 37 career AHL games, Grubauer has posted a 19-13-3 record with three shutouts, a 2.34 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
