MSE Foundation and Washington Capitals Launch Courage Caps, Presented by Telos Corporation, to Support TAPSHats and T-shirts available beginning Wednesday, Jan. 11, when the Capitals host the Penguins
ARLINGTON, Va. – Courage Caps, Washington Capitals team-issued branded hats and T-shirts, will go on sale beginning Wednesday, Jan. 11, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation and the Washington Capitals announced today. This season’s Courage Caps campaign is sponsored by Telos Corporation with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).
For the sixth-consecutive season, TAPS is the beneficiary of Courage Caps. TAPS is a nonprofit organization that provides comfort and care for anyone who is grieving the death of someone who died while serving in the military. TAPS will receive 100% of the proceeds raised through the sale of Courage Caps. Funds raised will help TAPS provide peer-based emotional support, regional seminars for adults, good grief camps for children, casework assistance, grief and trauma resources and a 24/7 resource and information helpline for bereaved military families.
Courage Caps and T-shirts will be sold for $20 online at WashingtonCaps.com, at the Washington Capitals Team Store at Kettler Capitals Iceplex and at the Team Store and at stands throughout Verizon Center during Capitals home games. There will also be a limited number of autographed Courage Caps and T-shirts available for sale at WashingtonCaps.com and at the MSE Foundation table located behind section 104 on the main concourse at Verizon Center.
Since the program launched during the 2007-08 season, the Courage campaign has raised nearly $775,000 for charity through the sale of more than 22,000 Courage hats in nine years and more than 11,000 Courage T-shirts in seven years.
For $50 fans can purchase a Courage Cap or T-shirt signed by Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson, Braden Holtby, T.J. Oshie, Alex Ovechkin or Tom Wilson; for $40 fans can purchase a Courage Cap or T-shirt signed by any other individual player. Capitals fans will be able to order hats or T-shirts signed by any rostered player online.
A select number of autographed hats and T-shirts will be on sale at the MSE Foundation table at section 104 on the main concourse at Verizon Center. When the Capitals host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 11 fans may purchase hats and T-shirts signed by Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson, Braden Holtby, T.J. Oshie, Alex Ovechkin or Tom Wilson for $50 each and hats signed by Karl Alzner, Jay Beagle, Andre Burakovsky, Taylor Chorney, Brett Connolly, Lars Eller, Philipp Grubauer, Marcus Johansson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Matt Niskanen, Dmitry Orlov, Brooks Orpik, Nate Schmidt, Jakob Vrana, Justin Williams and Daniel Winnik for $40 each.
To launch the 2016-17 campaign, Capitals players including Taylor Chorney, Matt Niskanen, Brooks Orpik, T.J. Oshie, Zach Sanford and Nate Schmidt hosted nearly 150 children and adults who have lost a loved one in military service and found healing through TAPS for a skating party at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Dec. 22.
Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) is the national organization providing compassionate care for the families of America's fallen military heroes and has offered support to more than 60,000 surviving family members of our fallen military and their caregivers since 1994.
