The Capitals’ AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, defeated the Providence Bruins 3-2 (OT) on Sunday in Game 5 of the Atlantic Division Finals. Madison Bowey scored the game-winning goal in overtime and Vitek Vanecek stopped 29 of 31 shots to earn his first career AHL playoff win. Hershey leads the series 3-2. The Bears face the Bruins in Game 6 on Tuesday at Giant Center in Hershey.

Nicklas Backstrom made his 2017 IIHF World Championship debut on Sunday in Sweden’s 4-2 win against Denmark. Backstrom recorded two points (1g, 1a) and won 8 of 12 faceoffs (66.7%).
