Caps Today, 9/13/17

September 13, 2017
Capitals prospect Riley Barber is entering his third training camp since he started playing professionally in 2015. Over the last two seasons with the Hershey Bears, the 23-year-old forward has compiled 82 points (39g, 43a) in 113 games, adding another nine points (2g, 7a) in 29 playoff games. While his 2016-17 season was cut to just 39 games due to injury, Barber ranked fourth among Bears forwards in primary assists per game (0.26) and second in shots per game (2.62). The Pittsburgh, Pa., native made his NHL debut on Feb. 24 against the Edmonton Oilers, skating for 9:56 minutes on 13 shifts. He was drafted by the Capitals in the sixth round, 167th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.

The Capitals will officially open their 2017-18 NHL training camp on Friday, Sept. 15 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va. All Capitals players, coaches and management will be available to the media. There are three practice sessions scheduled that day (Group White at 9:30 a.m., Group Red at 11 a.m. and Group Blue at 12:30 p.m.). Players will be available to the media at the conclusion of their on- and office-ice sessions. The complete training schedule and roster will be announced on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Similar to previous years, Kettler Capitals Iceplex will be closed to the media on Thursday, Sept. 14 – the day Capitals veterans conduct physicals and off-ice testing.

Please contact Megan Eichenberg in the Capitals PR department to confirm your media day attendance by 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept, 14.
