Capitals Goaltenders Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer to Participate in October Saves Goalie Challenge

ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals goaltenders Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer announced today their participation in the October Saves Goalie Challenge in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The October Saves Goalie Challenge was founded in 2014 by the Ashburn, Va., Xtreme Hockey Club. The challenge encourages Xtreme Hockey goaltenders as well as goaltenders throughout the country to pledge money for each save they make during the month of October, with proceeds benefitting charity. 2017 marks the first season the program is being launched nationally.

Capitals fans can pledge toward both players on the October Saves website:   Braden HoltbyPhilipp Grubauer. Fans who donate will be entered into a drawing to win a jersey signed by each player, with one winner receiving a Holtby jersey and another receiving a Grubauer jersey.

Funds benefit pediatric and women’s cancer research organizations along with the October Saves Scholarship Fund in partnership with The Goalie Guild.

The Capitals have supported October Saves since its launch three years ago. In 2015, the Capitals hosted participants at a game. Following the game, Capitals director of goaltending Mitch Korn participated in a Q & A, and the team presented the top three fundraisers with prizes. In 2016, participants attended a practice at Kettler, where Korn was joined by Holtby in a Q & A. This season, participants who raise more than $650 will be entered to win a scholarship to Korn’s goaltending camp, Korn Camp.
