Capitals to Host Canned Food Drive Supported by Giant Nov. 18

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – November 13, 2017

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals are hosting a canned food drive supported by Giant Food to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank on Saturday, Nov. 18, when the Capitals host the Minnesota Wild at Capital One Arena.

Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items. The Capital Area Food Bank’s most desired items include canned or dry beans, canned vegetables, peanut butter, grains, hot and cold cereal, canned fruits, canned tuna, salmon or chicken, healthy snacks such as raisins and granola bars, and 100% juice. Individuals who donate two or more items will receive a poster of Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen.  

In addition customers can also donate at their local Giant grocery store through Thursday, Nov. 23, in the following ways:

·       Purchase a Nature’s Promise Box that will be donated directly to the Capital Area Food Bank

·       Purchase and donate one of the “healthy most -wanted items” featured in stores

·       Bring and/or purchase any non-perishable food items and place in store collection bins at the front of stores
