Caps Today, 12/7/17

December 7, 2017
Alex Ovechkin registered a four point (1g, 3a) game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night to power the Capitals to their sixth win in their last seven contests and extend their home win streak against Chicago to seven games dating to Oct. 11, 2008.  Additionally, Ovechkin has recorded the game-winning goal in consecutive contests (Dec. 4 vs San Jose). Wednesday’s tally marked the 98th such goal of his career, moving him into a tie with Bobby Hull and Guy Lafleur for ninth place on the NHL’s all-time game-winning goal list.

Ovechkin’s 21 st goal of the season secures his NHL lead in goals. Ovechkin has scored 21 goals in the Caps’ first 29 games of the season, tying his second-highest goal total through the Caps first 29 games of a season (2008-09: 21, 2013-14: 22). Ovechkin has a goal in three-straight games, tied with Brett Connolly for the longest current streak and has eight goals in his last seven games.

This Day in Capitals History:

Dec. 7, 1977: Defenseman Robert Picard scored his first career NHL goal as the Capitals snapped a 20-game winless skid with a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Barons. Picard was the Capitals first-round selection (third overall) in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. He’d finish his rookie campaign with 10 goals and 37 points in 75 games.
