Caps Today, 3/14/18

March 14, 2018
Tom Wilson assisted on Alex Ovechkin’s 600 th career goal to record his 30 th point (11g, 19a) of the season on March 12 against the Winnipeg Jets. That marked the first time Wilson has reached the 30-point mark in a season in his career. Of Wilson’s 30 points, 28 have come at even strength, while one has come on the power play and another shorthanded. Additionally, Wilson has 27 total points at five-on-five, and of those 27 points, 20 have been primary points (a goal or a primary assist), tied with Nicklas Backstrom for the third-most on the team.

With his most recent assist and his 164 penalty minutes, Wilson became the first player since the 2011-12 season to record 30 points and 160 penalty minutes. Wilson’s 164 penalty minutes rank second in the NHL this season, and his 783 total penalty minutes since his 2013-14 rookie season lead the NHL. Wilson has drawn 31 minor penalties this season, tied for the fourth-most in the NHL. Since the 2013-14 season, Wilson has drawn 172 minor penalties, the second-most in the NHL during that span (Nazem Kadri: 200), and his 2.28 drawn penalties per 60 minutes of play ranks first among all skaters with at least 150 games played since the 2013-14 season.
