Caps Today, 4/14/18

April 14, 2018
In Game 1 versus the Columbus Blue Jackets, Evgeny Kuznetsov opened the scoring for the Capitals with two goals 29 seconds apart on the power play, marking his 13 th career playoff goal and second career two goal game in the playoffs. Kuznetsov’s back-to-back goals 29 seconds apart were 13 seconds shy of the Capitals’ franchise record (Larry Murphy, April 10, 1985, 16 seconds, also on the power play). Additionally, Kuznetsov’s two power play goals were the fourth-fastest back-to-back power play goals in the playoffs in NHL history and the fastest since Sami Salo recorded two in 16 seconds as a member of the Vancouver Canucks. It also marked the eighth time in franchise history a Capital recorded two power play goals in a single playoff game and the first since Steve Konowalchuk (April 18, 2001 versus the Pittsburgh Penguins).

The Capitals return to Capital One Arena to host the Blue Jackets in Game 2 of the 2018 Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Washington is 10-7 all-time in playoff series when dropping Game 1.
