The Capitals host the Columbus Blue Jackets at Capital One Arena tonight in Game 2 of the 2018 Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Washington lost Game 1 versus Columbus 4-3 in overtime on April 12 at Capital One Arena. Washington is 10-7 all-time in playoff series when dropping Game 1.  The Capitals posted a 3-1-0 record against the Blue Jackets during the regular season.

The Capitals are 14-12 all-time at home in Game 2 of a series and have posted a 10-7 record in Game 2 when they trail a series 1-0. In addition, Washington has won Game 2 in six of its last nine playoff series. Alex Ovechkin has earned 18 points (10g, 8a) and Nicklas Backstrom has tallied 17 points (8g, 9a) in 15 career Game 2s. In 41 playoff games following a loss, Ovechkin has 44 points (17g, 27a), including 10 points (3g, 7a) following seven career Game 1 losses.

April 15, 1990: John Druce had the game-winning goal as the Capitals beat the New Jersey Devils 3-2 in Game 6 of the Patrick Division Semifinals. With the win, the Capitals advanced to the Patrick Division Final where they would face the New York Rangers. Druce’s game-winning goal was the start of his franchise postseason record seven-game goal scoring streak.
