Caps Today, 4/18/18

April 18, 2018
The Washington Capitals defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 in double overtime on Tuesday night at Nationwide Arena and now trail the series 2-1 heading into Game 4 on Thursday night. The Capitals are 21-20 all-time in Game 4s.

Lars Eller scored the game-winning overtime goal, notching his first goal of the playoffs and his first career playoff overtime goal. Eller’s goal marked the fourth double-overtime win in franchise history and the first since Nicklas Backstrom scored against the Boston Bruins on April 14, 2012. Additionally, Eller’s goal came nine minutes into the second overtime, marking the second-latest game-winning goal in franchise history (Jason Chimera: 12:36 minutes into the second overtime, April 20, 2011 vs. New York Rangers). The Capitals improved to 16-20 in overtime games on the road and 3-1 over the last two years in the playoffs.
