This postseason, Ovechkin’s six goals and 10 points (6g, 4a) leads the Capitals and is tied for the fourth-most points in the NHL. Additionally, Ovechkin is tied for fourth among active NHL players (min. 20 games played) in career playoff goals per game (0.50) and tied for eighth in playoff points per game (0.96).
Ovechkin and the Capitals trail 1-0 in the series to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Capitals are 11-7 all-time in series following a Game 1 loss.
This Day in Capitals History:
April 28, 2009: Sergei Fedorov scored the game-winning goal with 4:59 remaining in the third period as the Capitals beat the New York Rangers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at Verizon Center. With the win, the Capitals rallied from a 3-games-to-1 series deficit and advanced to the second round of the postseason for the first time in 11 years. It also marked the second time in franchise history the Capitals overcame a 3-1 series deficit (1988 Patrick Division Semifinals).
