Caps Today, 5/2/18

May 2, 2018
The Capitals took a 2-1 series lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 4-3 win at PPG Paints Arena last night. Alex Ovechkin scored the game-winning goal with 1:07 remaining in regulation. That marked the second-latest game-winning goal in the playoffs in franchise history (Joel Ward: two seconds remaining in Game 1 of the 2015 Second Round against the New York Rangers) and Ovechkin’s seventh career game-winning goal in the playoffs, passing Peter Bondra, Nicklas Backstrom and Jason Chimera (six each) for the most in franchise history. Ovechkin now has goals in four-straight games (5g, 2a) and his eight goals is tied for first in the playoffs.

Nicklas Backstrom collected his second career three-assist game in the playoffs and is the franchise all-time leader in postseason assist with 58.

The Capitals have now won four road games in the playoffs (4-0) and join the Vegas Golden Knights (3-0) as the only teams without a loss away from home.
