Caps Today, 5/27/18

May 27, 2018
Four years ago today, on May 27, 2014, majority owner Ted Leonsis and team president Dick Patrick introduced Barry Trotz as head coach and Brian MacLellan as general manager. Since 2014-15, the Capitals have posted a record of 205-89-34 during the regular season. During that span, the Capitals have recorded the most wins and the most points (444) in the NHL, 26 more points than the Anaheim Ducks, who rank second over that span. Additionally, the Capitals rank first in power play percentage (23.2), second in goals against (805), third in goals for (1,002), and sixth on the penalty kill (82.6). The Capitals’ 32 playoff wins over the last four seasons ranks third, and their 159 playoff goals rank third.

MacLellan and Trotz will address the media today at 2:50 p.m. at Stanley Cup Media Day at T-Mobile Arena.

More than 6,000 fans filled the stands at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Saturday to watch the Capitals’ final home practice before the Stanley Cup Final, with fans then lining the top deck of the parking garage for one last send-off. The Capitals will face the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena in Game 1 of the 2018 Stanley Cup Final tomorrow at 5 p.m. PST.
