Caps Today, 7/1/13

Today’s Storyline
The Washington Capitals made six selections in the 2013 NHL Draft last night. Left wing Andre Burakovsky, 18, was Washington’s first-round selection, 23rd overall.

A native of Klagenfurt, Austria, he recorded four goals and seven assists in 43 games with Malmö of the Allsvenskan Swedish league. At last season’s U-18 World Junior Championships, Burakovsky posted four goals and one assist in five games with Sweden.

The 6’1”, 176-pound forward is the son of former NHLer Robert Burakovsky and helped Sweden win the silver medal during the 2012 U-18 World Junior Championships.

The Capitals also selected defenseman Madison Bowey (53rd overall), forward Zach Sanford (61st overall), defenseman Blake Heinrich (144th overall), center Brian Pinho (174th overall) and defenseman Tyler Lewington (204th overall).
